Things need to change to stay the same – this is particularly true for automobile powertrains in times where the demand for efficiency is higher than ever before. With the new Mazda M Hybrid – our new mild hybrid system for the Skyactiv petrol engine in the 2023 Mazda CX‑5 – fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions have been significantly decreased. The system uses recovered braking energy to assist the engine, so it can work less hard – and using less fuel – under the same load. By transforming brake force into usable energy via a belt-driven integrated starter generator (ISG) and a 24V lithium-ion battery, the M Hybrid system increases overall efficiency, delivering outstanding fuel economy without sacrificing the joy of driving.
